On Sunday, June 23, celebrities flocked to Phylm Studios in Los Angeles for the 18th annual awards show. Before heading in to see killer performances by H.E.R. and Lil Nas X and emotional speeches like Tyler Perry’s, they walked the red carpet in some seriously bold and beautiful looks.

Mary J. Blige , who was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by Rihanna , stunned in a white floor-length gown with elegant cutouts and silver sequin embellishments all along the front. Another favorite was Yara Shahidi , who wore a sweater and skirt combo that was to die for. It may not sound red carpet-ready, but thanks to her impeccable styling abilities the whole ensemble was truly a thing of beauty. Elevated by a draped sequin teal skirt, she wore a gray turtleneck underneath a slouchy pale sweater that she tucked into the front (A.K.A. the French tuck).

We also saw a bright color trend. Stars like Karrueche Tran, Tetona Jackson and Marsai Martin opted for daring yellows. Tran went with shirtless pantsuit with an oversized jacket tied at the waist. Martin dazzled in a lamé shin-length dress that she paired with strappy black heels. As for Jackson, she rocked something totally different, wearing a large mustard-hued blazer overtop a chainmail dress that goes from the middle of her neck down to her shins.

There were also a lot of fiery red looks, including a few of the same style. Blac Chyna and Shay Johnson both wore cherry gowns that added a bit of oomph with hip-high slits.
